Bands
and Artists...............
Nu-Vybes
In the early stages of the band’s development they
entertained only small audiences in St. Kitts-Nevis, which consisted
mainly of teenagers. Adults were still nostalgic for the big band
sound of the brass bands and the pure rhythms of calypso. But true
visionaries,NuVybes were clever in their creations. Their rhythms
varied from breathtaking fast music to slow waves of seduction.
Stories of carnival spirit echoed their love for music, while other
lyrics were inspirational messages. The band's poetic vibrations
were destined to make them unforgettably popular. Songs like "Indian
Chant"(1994-95 carnival) and "Rush Hour"(1995-96
carnival) were special favourites among the music fraternity as
well as the local band and music enthusiasts on the island.
Continuing on
the road to success, the NuVybes Band International captured the
prestigious road march title during National Carnival 1996-97 with
the hit song "Hand Signal" and again in 1997-98 carnival
with the very innovative and hugely successful "Street Style"
which catapulted them into the upper echelon of Caribbean musical
bands. The band followed “Street Style” with the album
No Loose Ends which featured “Rumble” and Carifesta
VII official anthem “Rythym is me Culture” which was
a fusion of Merengue, Latin , Zouke and Calypso music. No Loose
ends was another huge success and helped to cement the band as one
of the premier bands in the Eastern Caribbean. There 2000 album
“Extra Mile” saw the band taking a different approach
concentrating more on the slow groovy type songs that have made
other regional bands household names. “Imagine Dat”
and “Crazy Love” stood out and have since become regional
classics .
They have once
again proven themselves by being crowned road march champs for St.Kitts-Nevis
2001 Carnival with their smash hit "Sugar". “Peoples
Sugar” is the name of the album and the album’s title
track “Sugar” has taken the Caribbean by storm. Reaching
number 1 on several islands including Antigua and St.Maarten as
well as hitting the top 5 in islands such as Trinidad, Dominica
and Tortola.
The band has
performed all over the world including Cannes France where they
represeneted the Soca/Calypso Genre of music at the MIDEM International
music festival. They were also the only Caribbean band to perform
at the 1998 CARIBANA celebrations, which saw the band give a spectacular
performance to 1000’s of Canadien/Caribbean people on Toronto’s
world famous Olympic Island. NuVybes is the only band to perform
at every St. Kitts Musical festival since its inception.
The sound of
NuVybes has echoed throughout Europe, the U.S.A and Canada. In 1997
the group was house band for the opening of Caribana, held annually
in Toronto.
NuVybes band
is held together by a core of three talented musicians. Steve Dublin
is a second generation musician and is the founder of the band.
His arranging and producing has made him a much sort after producer
and arranger in the Eastern Caribbean. Gregory “Mention”
Hobson is the lead vocalists of the band and his talents as a vocalist/lyricists
has been lauded by music fans and pundits throughout the region.

80’s. Other members of the band include Chad “Sucky”
Benjamin (Bass), Leroy “Rush” Thompson (Vocals) and
Offlyn “One Boot” Rogers (Drums).

in Anguilla, Nevis, Antigua and St.Kitts but the greatest accolade
to NuVybes is the gyration and support of thousands of people all
over the world.
