First Serenade Band

In August 1984, from the tranquil village of Pointe Michel, nestled on Dominica's South Western Coast, emerged THE FIRST SERENADE BAND, renowned as one of Dominica's top bands. The versatility and originality of their music has satisfied many in Dominica and elsewhere with Zouk, Soca, Bouyon and basically any other type of music, for example Soukous music can be heard on their 1991 "Debouye" and 2000 “We Nah Done Yet” Albums.

The group has been in existence for over sixteen (17) years. The Band seeks to promote Dominica's Music and Culture, enabling in the erosion of Cultural Music barriers. The Band also wants to play a part in Caribbean music integration. Music, like an intangible life source of satisfaction, has kept the spirit of the group alive through their musical journey.

MAJOR PERFORMANCES

Annually tours North America and London, performing at all the major Carnivals such as Labor Day in New York, Caribana in Toronto, and Nottinghill in London.

Performed for Dominica’s Sunrise 2000 Millennium Celebrations.

Performed at all the annual World Creole Music Festivals in Dominica.

Performed to an estimated crowd of fifteen thousand(15,000) at the WLIB Radio sponsored summer concert at the South Street Seaport in New York City.

Opened for Beres Harmond, Barrington Levy, The Mighty Sparrow and his Troubadours, and for KASSAV'S Jean Philip Mathely and Patrick St. Elio at Centre des Artes in Guadeloupe.

Performed to a record audience, “the greatest crowd ever seen in Dominica's Festival City”, alongside the Barbadian Band KROSFYAH.

Performed together with some of the hottest bands in the Caribbean such as the Burning Flames band of Antigua, Square One of Barbados, Blue Ventures with Ronnie Mackintosh and Sanell Dempster from Trinidad, and Reason's Orchestra from St. Lucia.

Performed two consecutive tours in London 94-95 playing for Masqueraders's 2000 a Band which won the first prize in Notting Hill Carnival, the largest carnival in Europe. Played in Stratford, Southhall, Hackney, Manchester, Bradford and Kilburn.

Performed annually in numerous venues and Carnivals in St. Martin, St. Croix, St. Thomas, Tortola, St, Lucia, Guadeloupe, Barbados, Antigua, the United States, Canada and England.

The diversity of musical styles has afforded the band the comfort of backing up Jamaica's Michigan and Smiley, Trinidad's Baron and Sugar Aloes and 1993 Calypso Queen Miss Bianca Hall together with Cro Cro from Trinidad.

Performed alongside the legendary Exile One and Grammacks, the pioneers of Cadance Music in the 70's.

Performed in Portsmouth for D.B.S. Radio to coincide with Dominica's 19th Anniversary celebrations.

Annual participation in Mas Domnik. THE BAND The sixteen-year-old FIRST SERENADE BAND is made up of fourteen members comprising management, public relations personnel, engineering and musicians. The Band seeks to promote its music worldwide and continues to satisfy many an entertainment seeker who may come into the sphere of its music.
